Piedmont - Roero - IT

Chris & Aaron is like a trip tale into the mind of a creative soul

Pedemontis, Arajs, Roero Arneis DOCG. Ancient white grape variety cultivated since 1400 in the Roero. For century vinified sweet or in vermouth version, it experienced a period of splendor linked to the European royal courts, and then risked extinction towards the early 1900s when, due to its difficulty in being cultivated and poor yield, it was almost abandoned in favor of more generous and easier to grow grape variety such as Chardonnay. Since the late 60s of the twentieth century, it has experienced its rebirth and enhancement, thanks to dry and pure winemaking. Today, it is the Piedmontese white wine par excellence. Docg since 2004, production is allowed in the municipalities of Canale, Corneliano d’Alba, Piobesi d’Alba, Vezza d’Alba, Baldissero d’Alba, Castagnito, Castellinaldo, Govone, Guarene, Magliano Alfieri, Montà, Montaldo Roero, Monteu Roero, Monticello d'Alba, Pocapaglia, Priocca, S. Vittoria d’Alba, S. Stefano Roero and Sommariva Perno.

Editor's note: Local and traditional varieties. We grow local and traditional varieties: Barbera and Nebbiolo for the reds; Arneis and Favorita for the whites. Varieties with centuries-old history, these have been brought back to life and reintroduced within the closed-cycle viticulture that we practice. The scent of the sands. Long ago, Roero was a coastal area, and this can still be seen in the large presence of sand mixed with limestone that forms the soils. Even today, it is easy to find fossils of shells, small fish and phyllites (fossilized leaves) with the naked eye: this is the sign of the shallow waters and lush coastal vegetation once present here. The soil in Roero is generally younger than the one found in the nearby Langhe. It is softer and more water absorbent, characteristics that endow wines with natural finesse.
